Shri G.V.V. Sarma obtained Master’s Degree in Physics. Shri Sarma joined Indian Administrative Service in 1986.
He discharged duties in various assignments in Nagaland initially and Odisha later. Served as Collector & District Magistrate in the districts of Nayagarh and Jharsuguda. Worked in different sectors including MSME, ST and SC development, land administration, Women and Child Development and Education. Worked in National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad from 2000 to 2005.
Worked in Expert Group set up by Planning Commission on tribal land alienation. Worked in Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India from 2010 to 2015.
Served as Member Secretary to the Task Force constituted by Government of India for review of Disaster Management Act, 2005. Had the opportunity to work in Supercyclone of 1999 in Odisha and the coordination tasks related to floods of 2013 in Uttarakhand, Phailin cyclone of 2013, September 2014 floods in J & K and Hudhud cyclone of 2014.
