Visit to Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant - 02 November 2023
|
NDMA team led by Shri Kamal Kishore, Member and HoD and Shri Rajendra Singh, Member and Dr SK Ghosh visited Kaiga for the review of off-site emergency preparedness of Kaiga NPP.
👉 The NDMA team also visited the Emergency Operation Centre of Uttara Kanara district and had a discussion with Uttara Kannada district administration on various aspects of disaster preparedness.

3rd Technical Advisory Committee meeting for review and appraisal of Drought Mitigation plans under NDMF- 02 November 2023
|
The 3rd Technical Advisory Committee meeting for the review and appraisal of Drought Mitigation plans under NDMF (National Disaster Mitigation Fund) as per the recommendation of XV Finance Commission was convened at the NDMA Bhawan.
👉 The meeting was headed by the Sh. Krishna. S Vatsa, Member, NDMA. Officials from NRAA (National Rainfed Area Authority) , the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare, IARI (ICAR - Indian Agricultural Research Institute), and UNWFP (UN World Food Programme) also attended the meeting.

State-wide Mock Exercise in Nagaland on Earthquake Disaster - 02 November 2023
|
NDMA in association with Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority conducted a state-wide mega mock exercise on the Earthquake disaster. The exercise was carried out to test the capability of the state in responding to and managing different disaster situations.
👉 Chief Secretary Nagaland, Shri J Alam was also present along with the stakeholders from government machinery, line departments, and uniformed forces such as the Army, IAF, Assam Rifles, NDRF & CAPFs.

Meeting with UNEP to Explore Collaboration on UHI Mapping & Assessment - 09 Nov 2023
|
Shri. Kamal Kishore, Member & HoD, National Disaster Management Authority, India chaired a meeting with the team of the United Nations Environment Programme (@UNEP, India) office to discuss and deliberate upon the current activities with cities in building heat resilience and efforts to standardise the methodology for Urban Heat Island (UHI) Assessments.
👉 Sh. Kunal Satyarthi Joint Secretary, NDMA and Mr Atul Bagai, UNEP Country Head attended with their teams and discussed collaborative efforts on Heat Action Plans etc.

Visit of Delegation from Republic of Ghana to NDMA - 15 Nov 2023
|
Together, we forge a path towards resilience and preparedness!
A delegation of the Republic of Ghana paid a visit to NDMA Bhawan; and shared insights into disaster management with presentations on Disaster Management systems in India, CAP-based alert integrated alert system with a debriefing session on collective capabilities in disaster preparedness and response.
👉 This visit marks a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and sharing valuable insights into disaster management.
👉 The exchange of knowledge and experiences between the teams holds the promise of creating more resilient communities and building a future where we can effectively mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

Training Program on National Disaster Management Information System (NDMIS) at Odisha, Bhubaneshwar - 18 Nov 2023
|
NDMA organised the Training Program on National Disaster Management Information System (NDMIS) at Odisha, Bhubaneshwar in collaboration with NIC, MeiTY (National Informatics Centre), and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority- OSDMA on November 18, 2023.
The Training had two targeted components:
(1) The first was to sensitize the officials about the importance of uploading disaster loss and damage data.
(2) The second part of the training was focused on the practical demonstration of the NDMIS portal and its functioning.
👉 Officials from NDMA emphasised the importance and linkages of loss and damage data with the four priority areas of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and it's monitoring.
👉 The issues of the State officials related to the NDMIS were addressed and guidance has been provided for collecting and uploading the loss and damage data to the portal. State officials actively participated in the training and shared their experiences related to the subject along with their commitment towards Disaster Management.

PDNA for the state of Himachal Pradesh - 20 Nov 2023
|
Members and Senior officials held a meeting to discuss and deliberate upon the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) for the state of Himachal Pradesh. This assessment involves collaboration among various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and affected communities. This collaborative approach fosters coordination and ensures a more comprehensive and efficient response.
👉 Earlier this year, a 22-member team led by Sh. Kunal Satyarthi, Joint Secretary, NDMA and comprising of experts from NIDM, CDRI, UNDP-India, UNICEF India, IIT, Jaypee University, and the other 60 officers of Six districts from HPPUD, HPSEB, Jal Shakti, Agriculture and Horticulture departments participated for the PDNA.
👉 Post-disaster needs Assessment is crucial for understanding the impact of a disaster, guiding recovery efforts, and promoting a coordinated and effective response from local and international stakeholders.

Meeting regarding Earthquake Preparedness of NCT of Delhi - 22 Nov 2023
|
A meeting regarding the Earthquake Preparedness of NCT of Delhi was convened at NDMA Bhawan under the Chairmanship of Shri. Kamal Kishore, Member & HoD, NDMA along with the other Senior Officials of NDMA.
👉 The meeting was attended by the officials from NDRF, Delhi SDRF, MCD, DM's of eleven Districts, and Fire and Emergency departments.
👉 The status of the DM plan of NCT of Delhi with an emphasis on Earthquake preparedness was discussed.
👉 The functioning of EOCs, the Status of SDRF, IRS etc. and the status of implementation of Building Codes inclusive retrofitting of critical Infrastructure were deliberated upon.

TTEx and Mock Exercise on Earthquake Disaster for the State of Arunachal Pradesh - 21-23 Nov 2023
|
NDMA & Arunachal Pradesh SDMA conducted a mock exercise on earthquake disaster from 21-23 Nov for all 26 districts. 189 sites, 27 hospitals & 54 relief camps were activated. Multi-agency response validated with Army, IAF, Assam Rifles, NDRF, CAPFs, TSP, AAI, NGO & volunteers participated.
👉 The Mock Exercise validated procedures and processes for effective disaster response and facilitated inter-agency synergy. Response to secondary effects due to an Earthquake was also simulated - viz. GLOF, Landslides, Fires, flash floods due to river blockage/slides and Industrial accidents involving major IOCL Fuel/Gas Storage sites.
It was preceded by a Table Top Exercise to rehearse disaster managers in their roles and duties. Shri Tanpho Wagnaw, Advisor to CM on DM, Shri Dharmendra, Chief Secy Arunachal Pradesh, senior State Govt. officers and all stakeholders were present for the events. The outcomes of the exercise were appreciated by all participants and received wide media coverage

CBRN Training with GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) - 20-24 Nov 2023
|
NDMA in collaboration with the GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) organised a five-day training program on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Emergency Management from 20th to 24th November 2023. The basic training aimed to enhance the preparedness of Airport Emergency Handlers in responding to CBRN emergencies, covering potential threats involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear materials within airport environments.
🔸 The comprehensive training included lectures, field exercises, and live demonstrations, focusing on detection and decontamination procedures. In addition to equipping emergency handlers with the skills to manage CBRN emergencies, the program aimed to enable them to provide medical first aid and initial psycho-social support.
🔸 Mr Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, inaugurated the program, marking the third such training initiative held at GMR Hyderabad International Airport.

Collaborative efforts fostering enhanced Emergency Services!
👉 National Disaster Management Authority convened the 8th Steering Committee Meeting for the 'Extension of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) for the Disaster Emergencies Project under the chairmanship of Lt. General (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain along with the officials of C-DAC to discuss and deliberate upon the present project implementation status with States/UTs.

Visit of Delegation from the Republic of Ghana - 24 Nov 2023
|
A delegation comprising 14 members from the Republic of Ghana paid a visit to NDMA Bhawan; engaged in discussions and deliberations with the Members and Senior officials of NDMA to share invaluable insights and experiences related to disaster preparedness in India and Ghana. Senior Officials from NDRF, HQ-IDS, and AFMS were also present for the debriefing session.
👉 This debriefing session becomes a platform for knowledge exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of strategies, challenges, and best practices in disaster management. The delegation of Ghana came to India on a special mission for knowledge exchange and technology transfer for capacity strengthening of early warning systems for emergency preparedness and response.
👉 The visit of the Ghanaian delegation to the NDMA marks a significant step towards international collaboration on disaster management. Together, India and Ghana strengthen their commitment to safeguarding communities and mitigating the impact of disasters through shared expertise and mutual cooperation.
