NDMA and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) discussed avenues for collaboration in disaster-resilient infrastructure during a meeting organized at NDMA Bhawan in New Delhi on 2nd September 2024.

The meeting was attended by Shri Rajendra Singh, Member &HoD NDMA, Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), Member NDMA, Dr. Krishna S. Vatsa, Member NDMA, Shri Amit Prothi, DG, CDRI, Col Kirti Pratap Singh, Advisor (Operations & Communication), NDMA and other senior officials.

To discuss the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives in the power sector, a meeting was conducted by NDMA with officials of the Ministry of Power and Members from various Power Corporations, chaired by Shri Rajendra Singh, Member &HoD, NDMA,at NDMA Bhawan in New Delhi, on 4thSept 2024.

Discussions covered the conduct of Disaster Management (DM) exercisesin furtherance of NDMA's DRR objectives.The meeting was attended by Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), Member NDMA, Dr Krishna S. Vatsa, Member NDMA, Shri A Balan, Member (Planning), Central Electricity Authority, Col Kirti Pratap Singh, Advisor (Operations & Communication) NDMA,other senior officials of both offices.

Ms Angela Lusigi, Resident Representative of UNDP India called on Shri Rajendra Singh, Member &HoD, NDMA on a courtesy visit,at NDMA Bhawan, on 4thSept 2024. The meeting focused on various ongoing projects and future initiatives.

NDMA organised a brainstorming workshop on ‘Upscaling Parametric Insurance'with stakeholders from private, public,and MNC insurance companies and NGOs, at NDMA Bhawan, on 13thSept 2024.

Member & HoD, Rajendra Singh, Member Dr Krishna S Vatsa and Advisor (Mitigation) Safi Ahsan Rizvi of NDMA were present.Discussions centred around evangelising the concept of parametric insurance with state governments, large donor entities and SHGs.

The two key impediments to amplification - the source of premium payment and large-scale participation were also discussed.

Diplomats from 32 countries of the 2ndGlobal South Young Diplomats Forum (GSYDF) from SSIFS, visited the NDMA Bhawan in New Delhi on 13thSept 2024 and learned about India’s Disaster Management efforts at local, regional and global levels.

All three Members viz. Shri Rajendra Singh, Member &HoD, Dr Krishna S Vatsa, Member,and Lt. Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), Member and other senior officials of NDMA were present at the high-level meeting.

On 17th Sept 2024, Lt. Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), Member, NDMA, briefed the media about EXERCISE AIKYA, a multi-stakeholder Integrated Symposium-cum-Table Top Exercise on Disaster Management which was organised by NDMA in collaboration with SDMA (Tamil Nadu)and IndianArmy (Southern Command) in Chennai on 18-19 Sept 2024.

Dr P K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India inaugurated the one-day workshop on "Why Disaster Risk Insurance Matters" organized by NDMA, at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on 20th September 2024.

Technical Session on "Using Global and Indian Pool Examples to Design Risk Pools in India" was held during the workshop, chaired by Dr Krishna S Vatsa, Member NDMA and Co-chaired by Shri Ahsan Rizvi, Advisor Mitigation NDMA.Another technical session on Integration of Nat Cat Bonds in India's Disaster Risk Finance Profile" was chaired by M.P. Tangirala, Additional Secretary, DoFS& Co-chaired by Shri Safi Ahsan Rizvi, Advisor NDMA.

The workshop was organized as part of NDMA's CoDRR (Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction) series on Disaster Risk Finance, to discuss parametric insurance, risk pools, Nat Cat bonds and data availability.

Supporting the centralgovernment's flagship campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, NDMA organized a plantation drive at its premises in New Delhi, on 23rd Sept 2024.

All members, senior officials and staff planted tree spellings in their mother’s name at the NDMA premises.

The heart of theflagship campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ lies in planting trees as a tribute to both Mother Earth and our mothers and draws a beautiful parallel between the nurturing role of Nature and the nurturing role of our mothersin our lives.

Shri Rajendra Singh, Member &HoD, NDMA presided over the workshop"Role of Geospatial Technologies for Disaster Risk Mitigation & Management" organized by FICCI, as the Chief Guest, on 26thSept 2024.

Speaking at the event, he stressed the utilization of GIS technologies in disaster management especially in EWS, Risk Identification, Emergency Response, Climate Change & Future Resilience. He also invited industries andFICCI for Collaboration Capacity Building for a proactive approach to disaster management.

The members of the BOT agreed to strengthen the ADPC and improve the ADPC's Governance, Leadership and Institutional Development. The member countriesalso agreed to enhance mutual cooperation in Disaster Risk Reduction and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region.

A New Control Room of NDMA was inaugurated by all three Members viz. Shri Rajendra Singh, HoD, Dr Krishna S Vatsa and Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), at NDMA Bhawan, on 28th Sept 2024.

The Control Room has been designed as the Focal Centre for reporting disaster incidents and disseminating information to respective State authorities, SDMAs and citizens residing in affected areas through self-broadcasting alerts. It also monitors the rescue and recovery efforts on real real-time basis.
