A two-day Integrated Symposium-cum-Table Top Exercise (TTEx) 'EXERCISE AIKYA' on Disaster Management was organized by NDMA in collaboration withthe Indian Army (Southern Command) and Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority, at HQ Dakshin Bharat Area, Chennai from 19th to 20th September 2024.
It simulated disaster scenarios to test preparedness and response strategies for hazards like cyclones, floods, and tsunamis.EXERCISE AIKYAprovided a critical platform for disaster management agencies to collaborate, share expertise, & strengthen preparedness across peninsular India.
The exercise featured stakeholders from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, & Puducherry, alongside alert-generating agencies such as IMD, CWC, INCOIS and DAE and officials of Response Agencies including the Indian Navy, IAF, NDRF, Indian Coast Guard, CISF and Indian Railways.
“This symposium is a learning curve for all of us—an opportunity to exchange knowledge and test our unified response in disasters,” said Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd) during the initiation of 'EXERCISE AIKYA' in Chennai.
NDMA continues its efforts by conducting such mock exercises and tabletop exercises to help train responders and improve coordination during disasters and emergencies.
