FLOODS

INFORM

  • community leaders, Evacuation Center personnel, or your neighbors that you are returning to your home – obtain their advice and recommendations

ROADS

  • may be closed or obstructed – they may be damaged, water logged, or covered with debris. Proceed with extreme care.

FLOODED AREAS ARE HAZARDOUS

  • you are advised to avoid the area. If you decide to walk through the flooded area, stay on firm ground, wear protective clothing and solid shoes and beware of broken glass, electrical charges, contaminates, chemicals, sewage, dangerous animals or insects

LISTEN

  • to public messages on the radio or over loud-speaker systems – be alert to the possibility of flash floods which may still occur

EMERGENCY WORKERS

  • may be assisting in the flooded areas; obtain information on how you may safely be able to help

AVOID

  • walking through the flooded areas – this may cause injury, disease, infection or worse

ENSURE

  • children are accompanied ALWAYS – don’t allow them to wander and explore recently flooded areas or abandoned/damaged buildings

AVOID

  • muddy areas, river banks, landslide areas, damaged and partially fallen buildings, fallen masonry, abandoned vehicles
