The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) organized a one-day Consultative workshop for 'Forest Fire Management in India' on 11th of May 2022. The multi stakeholder workshop involved discussions and deliberations on policies on forest fire prevention and management, preparedness, community mobilization, emphasis on forest fire prevention practices, early warning systems, dissemination, modernization of the forest fire equipment, capacity building & professional up-gradation for the better-trained workforce to fight forest fires. It also aimed to develop a multi stakeholder National Project' Forest Fire Management in the most vulnerable districts of India".

India held the 'First Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Disaster Management Cooperation' virtually on 12th May 2022. Member states discussed and finalized the concept note on BIMSTEC Disaster Management Cooperation drafted by India.

Meeting to review Pre- Monsoon/Monsoon Situation - 13th May 2022
|
National Disaster Management Authority held a review meeting on 13th May 2022 to discuss and deliberate upon the Pre Monsoon/Monsoon situation in the country with the stakeholders from the India Meteorological Department, Central Water Commission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Integrated Defence Staff, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and Relief Commissioners from the States/ UTs. Earlier this month, on 5th May 2022, PM Shri Narendra Modi had chaired a high level meeting to review situation related to Heat Wave Management & Monsoon Preparedness
➡️ The meeting called for the discussion on the following:
Revision of the SDMPs of respective States/UTs.
Ensure the functioning of the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) 24*7, 365 days a year.
Raising and Strengthening of SDRF.
Procuring and Storing gears and equipment for Flood Water Rescue.
Training and Deployment of volunteers like Aapda Mitras.
Suggestions to improve Early Warning generated by IMD and CWC.
Dams and Reservoirs- Review of HFL, Danger and Warning Levels of Reservoirs/ Dams.
Adoption of DSS- Decision Support System with integrated Flood Early Warning system like FLEWS- Flood Early Warning System etc.
New Emerging threats- Flooding of Sand Mines and Coal mines.

Meeting with DM Cell of MOH&FW to discuss on the course curriculum/content for the training programs under CSS ' Health Sector Disaster Preparedness & Response' - 13th May 2022
|
The training programs are
a) Capacity building of District Health Officials on Management of Public Health Emergencies.
b) Capacity building of Hospital Administrators on hospital preparedness for health emergencies.

National Disaster Management Authority, India members and senior officials held a meeting on 4th April 2022 with the representatives of Govt. of Nagaland and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) to discuss the details of the initiatives of innovative and sustainable climate risk insurance for Nagaland being implemented by them in partnership with Insuresilience Fund Management, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Frankfurt, Germany.

National Disaster Management Authority held a meeting on 5th April 2022 to discuss and deliberate upon the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) monitoring, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 1.5.2 and Loss & damage database under the chairmanship of Shri Kamal Kishore, Member & Secretary I/C, NDMA.
➡The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, adopted in March 2015, was the first of four agreements approved by the international community in 2015 with the overall aim of making development more sustainable in the face of a raft of challenges faced by the world.

The first meeting of the Sectoral Working Group (Stakeholders from GOI ministries/ departments) for the sector ‘Disaster Management and Infrastructure Resilience’ was organised on 11th April 2022 to contribute to the preparing of the Adaptation Communication to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

NDMA held a meeting to review the progress and preparation of the "Compendium of the best practices and indigenous technical knowledge about the management of Forest Fire" with the officials from Forest Research Institute, Dehradun on 13th April 2022.
➡ The meeting was held in continuation to the review meeting held on 21.03.2022. National Disaster Management Authority had signed an MoU with Forest Research Institute, Dehradun for preparation of the compendium.

➡ The meeting aimed at deliberations and discussions on the progress of the events and activities under the Mechanism of BRICS Ministers for Disaster Management in 2022, proposed outcomes and initiatives of the events and activities, BRICS Urban Search and Rescue Simulation Exercise.
